The year 2019 seems to be ‘the year of the Lord’ for Eliud Kipchoge.
With just days left before the New Year, the humble man from Rift Valley has bagged award upon award and it seems the floodgates are still opening.
As the world still celebrates his historic marathon run that he smashed in Vienna recording 1.59:40 in the world’s history, Kipchoge is set to be awarded a honorary doctorate degree from Laikipia University.
He is set to receive the degree during the university’s 7th graduation ceremony slated for December 6.
Khusoko understands that the University is awarding Kipchoge in recognition of his INEOS 159 challenge where he became the first man to run a marathon in under two hours.
“The University senate in making this award noted that Eliud has made tremendous contributions in the realm of sports. The senate specifically recognizes his most recent achievement of becoming the first human in history to run a sub-two-hour marathon,” the university said in a statement.
Besides making history in the INEOS challenge, Kipchoge was awarded the highest civilian award by the State.
He has also bagged the World Male Athlete of the Year for the second year running at the World Athletics awards gala held in Monaco, France.
